Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club News story

Presidents Message - Issue 5

24 May 2011

Now that we are a month into our inaugural league campaign, I felt it was time to update you on our start to the season.

Our 1st XI have had a superb start with 3 consecutive wins over Musselburgh, Largo and Stirling County XI’s respectively. These consistent performances have placed Tranent Cricket Club at the top of Division 9 so a huge amount of credit is due to the players who have contributed to this achievement.

All our players have been magnificent so far and there have been some notable achievements. 1st XI Captain, Mark Anderson has recorded the clubs first ever century with a superb 104 against Largo IV. To compliment this standard of batting, averages in excess of 50 from Scott Russell and up and coming star Aiden Hoenigmann have given us something to build on.

Of course, scoring runs is all fair and well but the performance of our bowlers has made sure good batting produces the results everyone enjoys. Mark and Karthick lead the table of wicket takers with an impressive 7 each while Piyush and Craig are in hot pursuit. This balance of batting and bowling illustrates the depth we are starting to achieve in the playing squad.

Since my last update, we have recruited some very impressive talent to the club to compliment what we already have. I’d like to extend a warm welcome to you all. Karthick, Piyush, David, Usmaan, Amjad and Scott have all made their 1st XI debuts and have performed exceptionally well. I’m sure these guys and the rest of you will enhance the squad further however more importantly to me, I hope you all enjoy your time with Tranent C.C.

Not only am I delighted with the way in which our league campaign has started but our midweek Development XI is playing a crucial part in this. Under the leadership if Calum McIntosh, the side are competing well and providing a platform for players to break into the 1st XI. I have no doubt whatsoever that youngsters Cammy, Ross, Zain, Aiden and Lachlan will become stalwarts in the 1st XI and cement Tranent Cricket Clubs place on the local and national sporting maps.

Off the field, things are progressing at a pace so the committee we will keep working on this and I will hopefully be in a better position later in the season to update you on these developments and our short and mid term plans.

Lastly, I’d just once again like to thank everyone for underpinning the somewhat meteoric rise of the club. When I compare this years averages with last year, it is simply night and day with the progression we have made. Although there are individuals who deserve a great deal of credit for this, I’d like to focus on the club as a whole and thank every single one of you for making Tranent C.C. one of the success stories in Scottish sport. It is not an easy task at any time to set a club up with very little external support but with the enthusiasm and drive of you all, it makes me immensely proud to be associated with this club and I hope you all are too.

Thanks
