Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club News story

Weekend round up - 28th April 2018

01 May 2018

Tranent and Preston Village CC kicked off their 2018 league cricket season in disappointing fashion this weekend with defeats for both the First XI and Third XI.

The Firsts lost to Edinburgh CC 2's by 289 runs in their Division 2 game at Campbell Park. Shine Tom was the only bowler to register a wicket as the opposition racked up a daunting 411-1. In reply, notable batting performances from Aiden Hoenigmann (25), Dave King (21, pictured) and Ravi Bhadrachala (20) ensured that TPVCC would bat their overs and take home five very useful league points.

The Second XI's home game against Dunnikier 2's was cancelled, falling victim to the heavy downpours throughout the morning.

The Third's made the trip to Fife to face Glenrothes' newly-formed 2's, and after winning the toss posted a healthy 94 in the first innings. Prince Barker was the pick of the batsmen, falling for 49, agonisingly short of a maiden half-century for the club. Glenrothes managed to knock the total off in a little over 20 overs for the loss of 6 wickets, Narayan Haran the pick of the TPVCC bowlers finishing with excellent figures of 14-4 from his 8 overs. Another handy five league points secured.

Next up the First team will look to bounce back at home against St. Boswells, the Seconds will hope to get their season off and running against Kirk Brae at Double Hedges, and the Thirds host Watsonians 4's.
