Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club News story

A Wee Bit of History

23 May 2012

Congratulations to Tuesday's side who competed in and won Tranent Cricket Club's first ever cup tie. After 2 and a half years and an almost cup tie against Preston Village we visited Edinburgh South 2nds at Roseburn artificial. Due to the captain Russell's late arrival Sparky stood in for the toss and elected to field. Anderson was given the new ball and was rewarded with a wicket from the first ball with the South opener edging behind. Although Anderson bowled well this was his only wicket from the game however his opening partner Jose, playing on debut, bagged four wickets to leave the South 35 for 5 from 8. Adnan Noor Ali and Adnan Ali were the change bowlers and reduced the hosts to 49 for 9 before Doom recorded his first wicket of the season. After the break  Aiden gave his wicket away before the two Adnans scored the required runs from under 8 overs.

This was a particularly good performance from the Belters given the Souths status of 3 divisions above us. We now move to round 2 to face Boroughmuir 2nds who will provide a stiff test. The game is scheduled for Sunday June 10.
