Match report
Tranent CC travelled to the home of Edinburgh cricket at The Meadows to play Morton in their 2nd twenty20 of the season.
Tranent CC travelled to the home of Edinburgh cricket at The Meadows to play Morton in their 2nd twenty20 of the season. Tranent continued with the policy of including cricket debutants in the side and fielded Neil Peters and Craig Adams to gain their initial caps for the club. Peters had other thoughts however and joined the game some 30 minutes after the start despite being one of the earlier arrivals at the pavilion. It cannot be confirmed what happened in the intervening 40 minutes but it was suggested by Callum that he had headed off in the general direction of The Argyle Public House hoping to settle some pre-match nerves.
Tranent won the toss and invited Morton to bat. Unfortunately the match pendulum swung the way of Morton after this slight victory and Morton charged to an impressive 170 for 5 off their allotted 20 overs. There were however some sterling performances by the Tranent bowlers with Mohammad Hameed, Royal John and Craig Adams returning both economical rates and wickets. On the fielding front Scott Russell collected the clubs first stumping and Craig Adams and Paul Davis both hung on to towering catches.
Captain Chris Smith delivered an uplifting team talk at the interval and indeed this appeared to be effective as Tranent raced to 11 before Hameed departed the field. John taking over continued with the run chase with the club reaching 35 prior to John’s wicket falling. Unfortunately Tranent seem to be developing an unhealthy habit in that the middle order collapsed again without adding to the total. Paul Davis and Smith however steadied the ship and played sensibly taking the score to 60 before Smith was retired and Davis left after being bowled. Peters and McIntosh both scored their first runs for the club prior to the innings conclusion on 70.
Tranent can take many positives out of the match with the bowling much improved and some good stops in the outfield.
Man of the Match: Chris Smith
Champagne Moment: Paul Davis’s ‘crocodile’ catch deep in the outfield.
