E=MCC v Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club TPV XI on Thu 18 Aug 2016 at 18:00
Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club Won by 3 runs

Match report It was a TCC XI with a good mix of players from all three league teams that made their way to Peffermill for the final midweek friendly of the season, and they made a quick start against opponents E=MCC with Adnan displaying some typically classy strokeplay to send the ball to the boundary with regularity before retiring for a speedy 25*. Amjad had also been going well at the other end, until he tried to hit the leather off a slow loopy pie of a delivery but could only manage a top-edge through to the waiting keeper who took the catch above head height.
Then came the surprise of the innings when, moved up the order, Gary showed off the kind of power that a lot of full-time batsmen can only dream of. He may have blotted his copybook early by calling a quick single and leaving his unfortunate partner Paul MacGregor (who had done well to survive some very rapid bowling) stranded in no-man's land, but in only a short space of time he would be the second retiree of the TCC innings. The highly impressive knock included two mammoth sixes - the best of which was a cross-batted smash over the fine leg fence (quite literally in fact, new ball required!).
Sensing they could be on the ropes, E=MCC brought their remaining quick bowler on for his spell and he immediately pinned Danny bang in front of middle stump. That saw Salamat join James at the crease and together they were able to work the singles to see TCC finish on 102-3, a total which looked competitive at the very least on a Peffermill pitch with long boundaries and a very slow outfield.

Tasked with opening the bowling, Paul Dance and Salamat each produced a fine couple of overs to ensure our opponents' chase began slowly. The first wicket fell when Paul rattled the stumps to send one opener back to the hutch, and this was quickly followed by the first bowling change with Amjad and Gary taking over. Unfortunately the wicket also brought E=MCC’s most potent batsmen to the crease for a ruthless innings comprised of slogs, pulls, drives and even the odd switch-hit. He would retire a few overs later after making his very rapid 25, along with the remaining opening batsmen, though it would not be the last time TCC saw either of them in the game.
Sam then flew through his one over before Paul Macgregor was brought on and he kept the two new batsmen well in check with some perfect line and length bowling. At the other end Saurabh took two wickets from his incredibly stingy spell to leave the home side in more than a spot of bother.
James then came on for his two overs and quickly ran through the lower order, taking three wickets in 1.1 overs. Unfortunately a sharp stumping by Scott off Danny's bowling had seen the return of the E=MCC power hitter who instantly took a liking to James' military medium pace, belting 14 runs off the remaining 5 balls.
With our opponents needing 12 off the last over for victory, Scott unleashed his not-so-secret bowling weapon, Adnan. Whilst the batsmen were impressive in their ability to get the ball away, the required run rate was against them and Adnan was always favourite to close the game out, ensuring victory for TCC by 3 runs.
