Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club News story

Small Club Exit

28 Jun 2012

Tranent exited the Cricket Scotland Small Clubs Cup at the quarter final stage on Wednesday after falling 4 runs short of Division 4 side Morton.

After winning the toss Tranent elected to field in a rain shortened game at the Gyle in Edinburgh. The Tranent side will be slightly dissapointed in their bowling effort after permitting the opposition to score 114 for 4 in their 15 overs. In reply Fahim and Ali got Tranent off to a flying start with 30 coming from the first 3 overs but Morton tightened their bowling and fielding leaving Tranent to score 50 off the last 5 overs. Anderson (39) and Noorali (20) upped the scoring rate and with 6 balls left Tranent only required 7 runs to win. Unfortunately the Belters only managed to score 2 of these runs and fell 5 runs short.

Overall it was a fantastic effort by the Division 8 side but an excessive wide count and playing with only 10 players did not help.

Tranent move on to league duties on Saturday at Dalgety Bay and more cup business at Heriots on Tuesday, weather permitting.
