Tranent and Preston Village Cricket Club News story

Top Weekend for Tranent

22 Aug 2012

Last weekend started poorly for Tranent CC with the news from Edinburgh Leisure that Saturday's league game with Holy Cross III was the latest weather victim. News then filtered through that the game could be saved by the efforts of Paul Bailey but unfortunately the game was written off late on Friday with news that the wicket could not be prepared. Dissapointing news given it was likely that we would miss out on another game when the sun was out and shining brightly and more importantly we were to miss out on a game with possibly the friendliest side in Scottish cricket.

Sunday presented the club with another opportunity to play cricket as the club had reached it's first final playing Holy Cross II. The groundstaff at Musselburgh had worked wonders preparing the wicket at Lewisvale and the only cloud was the Met Office predicted heavy showers from 1pm. Thankfully this was revised to 5pm which gave everyone the opportunity to play the game. Holy Cross played many of their club legends, including Coco McGill, Smudger, Ziggy, Shifty and Jonnie Bates. Tranent played possibly their strongest team ever. It was game on. We bowled and fielded incredibly well and restricted the Cross and Adnan Noorali struck the winning runs with 5 overs to spare. Tranent had secured their first item of silverware.

Later on Sunday evening as many players toured local public houses it was noted that Kirk Brae II had beaten Dalgety Bay thereby ensuring promotion to Division 7 next season.
